I'm still fumbling around on Blogger. These are the first and third tracks we ran. (I will definitely make them longer in the future). I fumbled video for the second tracks. The tracks were thirty, thirty-five and forty yards. It was warm and the wet. Straight tracks not double walked, FD every two strides, no article. On the first track Nimrod was distracted by a nearby walker carrying a large umbrella. I was pleased that he was able to go back to work. On the third track Nimrod was faster, more confident and more enthusiastic. I've noticed this throughout the last 2 weeks. He's always slow and hesitant on the first track. I've been working the article game like crazy. He downs with a single hand signal now. If I repeat the article game, leaving the articles in place, returning to the beginning of the line and running it again he often runs over the articles and refuses to down on command. I'm not sure what that's about. Similarly, when we're out walking a...

Notes from tracking on December 24th. The first track was 30yds with a FD every two strides. The second track was 35yds with a FD every two strides. The third track was 40 yds with a FD every two strides. There was an article at the end of each track. As you will see in the first track, Nimrod was distracted by a dog being walked in the distance. He knows both the dog and the walker, so he was able to refocus without prompting from me. On the third track, Nimrod moved slightly off the track and peed. This was a marking behavior not a need to relieve himself. I read in the rules that this does not disqualify a dog. There is no video of the second track. I fumbled the phone at the beginning of the track and Nimrod was moving too quickly for me to unlock the phone. Nimrod sees the articles, but in no way identifies them as an objective. I've done lots of "oops I dropped it" and "get it" with him with limited success. I'm not sure if I should go back to wor...

The first track was thirty yards long. It paralleled the second and third tracks which were north of the first t...

https://youtube.com/shorts/d1qc-oRyhWs?si=mRjdXMcFP0E5p03a Not sure if this worked. I'll publish and check back. This is video of our last and longest track. I videoed all three tracks but the quality of the video on the other two was poor. This was a fifty-yard track with FD every two steps. My takeaway is that he's tracking pretty well, and we have much work to do on article indication. We did a fair amount of "Oops I dropped it" on our evening walk. The light was too poor for video. Toward the end he was picking my glove up, looking at me for a treat and then dropping the glove to accept the treat

Nimrod and I trained on the5th and 9th The 5th was cold. By the time I got the first track laid, FD every 3rd shuffle step and every full step, my hands were numb. I tried videoing Nimrod, but I've always avoided phone photos, and I had difficulty keeping Nimrod in the frame and I kept cutting the off the video. I will continue to struggle with this aspect of tracking The track was thirty feet, straight line with an article at the end. (Should I put an article at the beginning?) Nimrod was nose down tail up and straight most of the time. He did pause a few times to stare at distractions, but I waited him out. When he nosed the article, I had to prompt him several times before he downed. The second track was a repeat of the first. I am playing article games with him, but Nimrod is such a mouthy dog that nosing anything on the ground is a given. When we walk or run together, I actively discourage nosing any object on the ground with lots of leave its. When we play the article game, ...

Tracked with Nimrod on 12/01/24. An unmitigated disaster. I don't know if I should have given him a day off after tracking class, if he was still recovering from the ravages of antibiotics that treated his clostridium and giardia infection, (The vet said he was no longer contagious), or if it was the unseen dog barking at him, (Always Nimrod's kryptonite). I laid the track FD every five shuffle steps and then FD after two normal steps, article at the end of track, no food at the terminal flag. Nimrod just stood there, head up, tail down, looking around. I have video which I will try to post. I tried to wait him out. No go. I indicated the first food drop. He went for it, then stood there head up, tail down. I indicated the next food drop. He went for it, then stood there. We limped to the end of the track in this fashion. He nosed the glove. (No big achievement here. He noses/mouths every McDonald's cup, Popeye's food container, plastic bag and straw we encounter...
